This cow was created to celebrate World Vegetarian Day 2020, on Oct 1, and is available in the No Meat Today app as a special look any cow attracted that day will put on.

🐮 Story of this cow

I'm a big fan of watermelon 🍉. When I lived in Vietnam, I would drink watermelon juice just about every day.

Good times.

Now that I'm back in France, I can only eat some during summertime. But I eat a lot more potatoes. I created this cow just as the watermelon season ended, so this was a nice way to keep the spirit going.

My daughter loves bananas, and my wife loves strawberries, so they had to make an appearance. A friend offered me eggplants (from his parent's garden) days before the drawing, and a red strawberry in front of a red watermelon would have been difficult (for me) to pull off. Plus, that's this cow's style anyway.

Carrots were an obvious choice. At least that's how my subconscious explained it to me after it forced the image in my mind.

And the pop-corns, well… you get it.

🤓 Why is she called Potatoe and not Potato?

It started with a typo (I'm not related to D. Quayle), but I decided that the "e" added a French touch to the name (the feminine form of a name is obtained by adding a silent "e" to the masculine form - and vice versa).

😱 Those open wounds look terrible. Is she in pain?

Absolutely not, and she doesn't understand what you mean. She doesn't attract more flies than your average cow.

OK, good police work. But no, I swear! Again, she was born that way, and even though I love watermelon, I could never hurt such a marvelous creature.

🕵️ What does "Ceci n'est pas une vache" and "Ceci n'est pas de la viande" mean?

It's French for "This is not a cow" and "This is not meat", respectively. Both are a reference to Magritte's painting The Treachery of Images, aka This is not a pipe. See About the prints below for a bit more details.

👉 Wait, who are you again, and what am I doing here?

My name is Arnaud Joubay (@sowenjub), and I created an iOS app called No Meat Today to help me eat less meat. It became way too idiotic and useful to keep it just to myself, so I decided to publish it.

Since then, I've been creating more and more cows that you can unlock in the app on special occasions.

Regarding what you are doing here, some of it is clear (your parents did something good, you, and you followed a web link or something), and some aren't. If you're like most of us, you might be procrastinating about some boring thing you'll end up doing in a rush, or it's bedtime, and you used your phone even though you need to sleep and swore not to do that anymore.

Anyhow, stop all that thinking, and treat yourself; you deserve it.
